What does my child need for school?

Children should be dressed in comfortable play clothes and wear sneakers with socks for the safest play. Children should not wear clothing that restricts them from participating in activities.

In your child's back pack, please include the following:

    • 2 complete changes of clothes. Be sure to switch out the clothes seasonally and as your child grows.

    • A water bottle labeled with your child’s name on it.

    • A lunch box labeled with your child’s name on it.

Winter Months: Please send your child to school with a warm winter coat, hat and mittens. When there is snow on the ground, please send in a separate bag with snow pants and snow boots. Snow boots may not be worn inside the school. Please make sure to leave a pair of indoor shoes at school.

Summer Months: Please send your child to school wearing a bathing suit (an email will be sent with information and dates for this) and with a towel. During water play, your child can wear water shoes or Crocs. Make sure your child has a full set of clothes and sneakers in their backpack to change into after water play.

    What is your curriculum like?

    Infant/toddler: Age 12 weeks-33 months

At MBKA, our Infant Toddler classroom is all about exploration. Infants are watching, learning and listening to the environment all around them. Our teachers are taking the infants for walks, painting with them, reading stories, singing songs, and so much more. The infant toddler classroom schedule is based on each individual child. While one baby may be napping, another may be exploring science in the sensory table. Our little ones are growing and exploring each day and our teachers are there with many new, exciting ways to help them thrive. We explore anything and everything! Toddlers love wandering around the classroom and do most of their learning through using their senses. Our day includes circle time, outdoor play, meals and snacks, math, science, art, stories, naps, and everyone’s favorite: outside play.

Socialization is very important to toddlers as they begin to share, use their manners, and learn to take turns. Getting outside, moving their bodies on the playground, exploring nature, and singing and dancing to music are just a few of the daily activities our toddlers engage in.

    Pre-School: Ages 33 months-6 years
In this age group, we focus on social emotional growth as well as (eventual) kindergarten readiness. We learn how to work together and how to conquer objectives by ourselves. Preschooler’s practice their letter and number recognition and eventually learn to write their own names. We also continue to explore phonics and letter recognition, so we may eventually turn that knowledge into the ability to read. MBKA has a very strong literacy based curriculum with an extremely print rich classroom environment. Preschoolers count numbers, and work on learning the days of the week and months. We’re busily engaging in science, art, math, and language activities as well as leaving time for meals, circle time and our favorite: outside/gross motor play!
